A just world begins with you. We have organized this Fair Trade shopping opportunity in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. This annual event has been helping lift people out of poverty and fight injustice in a sustainable way. Won’t you stand for fairness and join the movement with us?

  • Delicate Fortress (Haiti) – jewelry, home goods, accessories, pillows, sari items (throws, scarves), baskets and bowls
  • Rahab’s Rope (India) – Jewelry, Accessories, Scarves&Shawls, Blankets&Throws, Journals, Bags, Apparel, Home Decor, Ornaments, etc.
  • Imagine Goods (Cambodia) – Handbags, Jewelry, Napkins/Tablecloths, Aprons, Home Goods, etc.
  • Southwestern Arts – Missions in Motion (Navajo) – Pottery, Ornaments, Ironwork, Leather Bracelets, Turquoise Jewelry, etc.
  • Project Have Hope (Uganda) – Jewelry, Crafts, etc.
  • Mayan Hands (Guatemala) – We will have friendship bracelets. On their website they have Baskets, Scarves, Bags, Small Accessories, Table Linens, Holiday, Judica, Jackets, Books, Cards, etc.
  • Flat Boat Fair Traders (Nicaragua) – Balsa Wood Ornaments, Luminaries, Balsa Wood Earrings, Recycled Aluminum Desk Sculptures, Rainforest Jewelry, Necklaces, Hand-Embroidered Field Bags, Pottery, Wall Hangings, etc.

WHAT IS FAIR TRADE?

Fair trade is not a nonprofit organization or a charity. Rather, it is a moral and ethical way of doing business. There are a number of organizations around the world that provide Fair Trade certification. Certified products are marked with a Fair Trade logo. These various logos indicate that the products you buy will pay invisible dividends like hope, pride, dignity, increased confidence, safe work places, and people solving their own problems.

Fair Trade strives to eliminate sweat shops, exploitation, child labor and global poverty. Fair trade works to improve the rights of workers, implement fair wages and to improve regulations to protect workers.

The vendors at our event are leading the charge for positive improvements within these areas. Our Fair Trade vendors insist on products made with respect – respect for the environment, as well as, respect for the laborers. Your Fair Trade purchases assist with the elimination of; sweat shops, human exploitation, child labor, and global poverty. Please support the Fair Trade vendors at our event who are committed to fair wages, improving the rights of workers and encouraging regulations that protect workers.

GOALS

  • To challenge perspectives regarding how we spend our money at Christmas and encourage each other to spend in a way that we can make a difference in the lives of others.
  • To be a blessing to all involved – from the artisans to the end recipients of the gifts, including all who serve and attend – and to view each of these relationships as mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • To demystify disability through acts of service – Uniquely the Same works to understand and address the core needs of individuals and families affected by disability or economic disadvantage, and as a result, improve the quality of life for all.
  • To provide a warm atmosphere of fellowship and joy.
  • To practice environmental sustainability.
